Description
Take Cover Now: An Analog Horror Game
Take Cover Now is an analog horror game set in the early morning hours of June 3rd, 1998, when modest jazz radio station WSKC intercepts an Emergency Alert that is anything but a typical thunderstorm warning. This game explores a frightening prospect: what happens when bad actors use our safety systems against us?
About the Game
In the midst of a seemingly ordinary day, a mysterious group of nefarious individuals is working to attack public services across Florida. As part of their scheme, they hijack the Emergency Alert System, turning what was once a reliable source of government knowledge into a useless and dangerous tool.
The Story Unfolds
Locally famous radio DJ Scott Crosby is preparing for a stormy night at work when he receives a strange e-mail from his boss: “Don’t Trust the Emergency Alerts.” As the hours pass, Scott faces numerous hazards while struggling to determine which threats are real. A widower fighting to ensure his daughter’s safety, he must defend his radio station from malicious intruders.
Alternative Perspectives
The game offers a branching story with alternative pathways, allowing players to experience the events from two distinct perspectives: Scott Crosby and his daughter Amber. Amber, a fledgling teenage photographer grappling with the recent loss of her mother, has a tendency to act out and find things she isn’t supposed to. Players can decide whether to remain faithful to her father’s wishes or continue her path of rebellion.
Gameplay Elements
Take Cover Now is a classic analog horror walking simulator with puzzle and stealth elements. The player assumes the role of Scott as he defends his radio station, keeping it operational to broadcast updates to the citizens of Tampa while staying alive to see his daughter again. The game’s unique blend of horror and mystery keeps players on edge as they navigate through a world where trust in safety systems is broken.
