Doodle Empires is a sandbox game where you craft your own nations with unique histories and stories, all set against diverse maps. As you create and evolve your world, you’ll decide which nations thrive and which falter.

How to Play Doodle Empires

Start by creating your first nation. Choose a border color and name your new nation. Then, draw its borders on the map while keeping an eye on your remaining drawing power at the top.

Once you’ve used up your drawing power, select a nation to open its inspector and click the ‘Select’ button. Draw a new card from the top right, which allows you to modify the selected nation further.

Repeat this process to shape your nation and explore new possibilities.

Card Types in Doodle Empires

Doodle Empires uses various card types to shape your nation’s destiny. These include:

1. Expand Cards: There are three types: small, medium, and large. These cards help you expand your nation’s borders, with the added benefit that expanding into unclaimed territory is often cheaper than trying to take over existing nations.

2. Split Cards: There are two types: regular and small. These cards allow you to carve out new nations from parts of your previous selections.

3. Union Cards: These cards enable you to fully annex another nation, much like forming a royal union or treaty.

4. New Nation Cards: These cards give you the power to create a completely new nation, just like you did at the beginning of the game, allowing you to start a new Origin Group.

Map Modes in Doodle Empires

Doodle Empires offers two main map modes:

1. Political Mode: This mode displays the borders of all nations on the map, giving you a clear view of the global landscape.

2. Origin Mode: This mode shows you the original nation each current nation split off from, essentially a cultural group map. Additionally, a nation’s origin can be seen in its inspector panel.

Future Updates and Features

Doodle Empires is still in its early stages, with many exciting features yet to be added. Some upcoming mechanics include:

– Leaders with traits that influence their nation’s future

– Founding and adopting religions

– Creating tribes that can migrate and settle

– Disaster cards causing nations to lose land to the wilderness

– Historical Ages cards making certain cards more common during specific periods

– Quality of life enhancements such as map sizes, brush sizes, lists of dead nations, UI design, music/sound effects, etc.

This list will continue to grow as development progresses, giving you an idea of what’s to come in Doodle Empires.

About the Developer and Credits/Thanks

I’m Tanner/TanTan, the sole developer of Doodle Empires. My passion for historical map strategy games began in middle school. Inspired by simple drawing games on my computer using the paint app and observing others using spinning wheels to generate maps, I decided to turn these casual activities into a full-fledged game with complex possibilities and added randomness from drawing cards.
